Wilson relieved of duties as Bulldogs’ assistant

The Hamilton Bulldogs announced Tuesday that Ron Wilson has been relieved of his duties as assistant coach of the hockey club.

“I met with Ron earlier today and notified him that he was relieved of his duties,” said Bulldogs head coach Sylvain Lefebvre. “This was a difficult decision to make, but due to a difference in philosophy, we felt it was best to part ways. Ron has spent several years with the organization and we thank him for his loyalty and hard work and wish him the best of luck with his career in professional hockey.”

Wilson’s AHL coaching career has spanned 17 seasons as an assistant with Springfield (1996-2000), Saint John (2000-03), Hamilton (2003-09, 11-13) and Chicago (2009-11), winning Calder Cups in 2001 and 2007. Wilson also had brief stints as head coach in Saint John and Hamilton.

As a player, Wilson was a member of Nova Scotia’s Calder Cup championship team in 1977.
