SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Charlotte Checkers goaltender John Muse has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Mar. 13, 2016.
Muse backstopped the Checkers to four victories last week, helping Charlotte climb back into a playoff position in the Western Conference heading into the final month of the regular season.
Muse made 16 saves and was 3-for-3 in the shootout on Tuesday evening as the Checkers defeated Chicago, 3-2, and then stopped 15 of 16 shots in a 3-1 decision over the Wolves on Thursday. Then with division-leading Rockford coming to town for two games in an 18-hour span, Muse turned aside 50 of 54 combined shots to lead Charlotte to 6-3 and 4-1 victories on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
Muse is 13-4-3 with a 2.65 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage in 25 games this season, including 4-1-0 (1.63, .929) in six appearances since being re-acquired by Charlotte in a trade with Texas on Feb. 29. The fifth-year pro from East Falmouth, Mass., has made 133 career appearances in the AHL with Charlotte, Texas and Portland, amassing a record of 68-44-8 with a 2.65 GAA, a .915 save percentage and seven shutouts.
In recognition of his achievement, Muse will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Checkers home game.
