2016 AHL All-Star defenseman Esa Lindell of the Texas Stars was one of 16 players named by the Finnish Ice Hockey Federation to its preliminary roster for the World Cup of Hockey 2016, scheduled for Sept. 17 to Oct. 1, 2016, in Toronto.
Lindell, 21, is in his first season of play in North America. He has appeared in 57 games with Texas in 2015-16, recording 10 goals and 23 assists for 33 points along with a plus-7 rating.
A third-round draft choice by the Dallas Stars in 2012, Lindell made his National Hockey League debut with the club on Jan. 19 and has played four NHL games thus far.
