Buffalo Sabres’ third-round selection (77th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Signed a three-year, entry-level NHL contract with Buffalo on April 1, 2012.
2013-14: Completed his first full American Hockey League season with 20 points on 10 goals and 10 assists while skating for the Rochester Americans… Was the only player to appear in all 76 regular-season games with Rochester, becoming the first Amerks rookie to do so since Phil Varone in 2011-12… Ranked second among team rookies in goals and finished third in points… Made two postseason appearances for the Amerks… Made his professional postseason debut in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals against Chicago on 4/25… Scored for the second straight game and was +2 against Binghamton on 4/04… Recorded his first career multi-goal game with a pair of tallies in a 5-2 win over Syracuse on 4/02… Named the game’s second star and finished +2 over 15:25 of ice time… Notched two points (1+1) and was +2 to earn second star honors against Hershey on 2/07… Assisted on two goals in a 4-1 win at Lake Erie on 1/23… Had a three-game assist streak (0+3) from 12/21 to 1/04… Collected two points (1+1) in three games for the Amerks during the 2013 Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland… Netted the game-winning goal in the seventh round of a 2-1 shootout win over Toronto on 12/18… Scored his first goal of the season against Utica on 10/11… Made season debut vs. Grand Rapids on 10/04
2012-13: Appeared in two AHL games with the Amerks, collecting three points on one goal and two assists… Closed out the regular season with an assist at Hamilton on 4/21… Had a memorable professional debut with the Amerks, scoring a goal and adding an assist against Hamilton on 4/20… Reassigned to Rochester by the Buffalo Sabres (NHL) from the Owen Sound Attack on 4/17… Recorded nine points on three goals and six assists in 12 OHL playoff contests with Owen Sound… Wrapped up his junior career by leading the Attack in scoring and set new career-highs in goals (38), points (79), penalty minutes (115) and plus/minus (+31) while finishing second on the team in assists (41)… Ranked tied for 10th and 13th in the OHL in goals and points, respectively, and appeared in all but one game for Owen Sound… Scored 11 power-play goals and added four short-handed tallies, second-most among Attack skaters… Averaged a team-best 1.18 points per game… Finished 11th in the league with 115 PIM and ranked tied for 14th with a +31 on-ice rating… Led Owen Sound with 24 multi-point outings...
