The St. Louis Blues, parent club of the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen, have acquired defenseman Nate Guenin from the Pittsburgh Penguins, parent club of the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, in exchange for defenseman Steve Wagner.
Guenin will report to Peoria, while Wagner has been assigned to Wilkes-Barre.
Guenin has played in 41 games this season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, recording five points (three goals, two assists) and 63 penalty minutes. Last season, the 6-2, 210-pound defenseman registered 14 assists along with 95 penalty minutes in 62 games with the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL.
The Sewickley, Pa., native has played in 248 career AHL games, totaling 10 goals and 38 assists for 48 points. He has also skated in 14 National Hockey League games combined with Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, notching two assists and six penalty minutes. Guenin was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the fourth round, 127th overall in the 2002 Entry Draft.
Wagner has spent the last three-plus seasons in the St. Louis organization after signing as a free agent in 2007. He has appeared in 46 career NHL games for the Blues, posting four goals and 12 points.
Wagner, 25, has played in 130 games with the Rivermen, compiling 15 goals and 37 assists for 52 points. In 46 games this season, the Grand Rapids, Minn., native has three goals and 12 assists.
Wagner (6-foot-1, 200 pounds) played three collegiate seasons at Minnesota State-Mankato from 2004-07. In 113 contests as a Maverick, he posted 12 goals and 55 points.
