Griffins edge Ducks in Tuesday matinee

The Grand Rapids Griffins got goals from Bryan Helmer and Tomas Kopecky in the third period to squeak out a 2-1 win over Cincinnati at Van Andel Arena on Tuesday afternoon.

It was the third straight win for the Griffins, and the sixth loss in a row for the Mighty Ducks.

Michael Holmqvist scored a power play goal 4:50 into the game to stake Cincinnati to a 1-0 lead, and Ilya Bryzgalov made it stand up until Helmer tied the score with at the 6:20 mark of the third period. Kopecky netted the winner with 5:34 left in regulation, just 10 seconds out of the penalty box after serving a bench minor.

Former Mighty Ducks goaltender Joey MacDonald made 28 saves and improved his record to 8-3-0 on the season. Bryzgalov stopped 25 shots for Cincinnati.
