A light four-game schedule in the AHL on Sunday will feature the decisive match in determining who will coach the Canadian team at this month’s 2009 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Charter Communications.
Two teams remain in the hunt to send their coaches to the event, set for Jan. 25-26 at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass. The team with the best record in the AHL at the end of play today will provide one coaching staff for the event; the Chicago Wolves, by virtue of winning the 2008 Calder Cup championship, will have head coach Don Granato and assistants Jason Christie and Wendell Young leading the PlanetUSA squad.
Entering today’s action, Bob Woods‘s Hershey Bears (.729) have a slim lead over Lane Lambert‘s Milwaukee Admirals (.714). The Bears are in action — appropriately enough at the DCU Center to face the Worcester Sharks — while the Admirals are off.
Hershey needs to earn at least one point in today’s game at Worcester to maintain the best points percentage in the league. A regulation loss would drop them to .708 and give Milwaukee the top record and the All-Star honor.
