PEORIA 7, CHICAGO 6
Peoria’s Nicholas Drazenovic beat Chicago goaltender Dan Turple on a penalty shot at 15:10 of the third period to lift the Rivermen to a dramatic 7-6 road victory over the division-rival Wolves on Wednesday at Allstate Arena.
Julian Talbot paced the Rivermen with two goals and an assist, including the marker that tied the score at 6-6 midway through the final stanza.
Both teams scored three goals in the first period, and Chicago entered the final 20 minutes holding a tenuous 6-5 advantage
Trent Whitfield joined Talbot in posting three points (1-2-3) for the Rivermen, while Alexandre Imbeault, Nikolay Lemtyugov, and Josh Soares also lit the lamp.
Grant Stevenson tallied a pair of goals for the Wolves, who also received markers from Riley Holzapfel, Matt Anderson, Colin Stuart, and Spencer Machacek. Chad Denny chipped in a pair of assists.
The Wolves, who for much of the season allowed the fewest goals per game in the league, have now surrendered seven tallies twice in a nine-day span, having dropped a 7-2 decision to Manchester on Nov. 25. Chicago dropped its second in a row overall and fell to 3-6-0-0 in its last nine contests.
The seven goals marked Peoria’s highest output in a game since a 7-2 victory at Hamilton on Jan. 15, 2008. The Rivermen will host the Wolves in a rematch on Friday at Carver Arena.
HARTFORD 4, BRIDGEPORT 3 (OT)
Second-year defenseman Michael Sauer scored 2:06 into overtime to complete Hartford’s rally from a 3-1 deficit and give the Wolf Pack a 4-3 road win over intra-state rival Bridgeport on Wednesday at the Arena at Harbor Yard.
Bridgeport, which took a 4-1 win over Hartford last Friday, got out to a 2-0 lead in this game on goals by Trevor Smith in the first period and Jack Hillen on the power play early in the second.
Artem Anisimov brought the Wolf Pack within 2-1 with a power play marker of his own at 9:52 of the second, his third goal in the last four games. But Bridgeport regained its two-goal edge when Mike Iggulden netted his team-leading 12th goal of the campaign at 12:22, with Hillen picking up the lone helper.
Hartford’s Brodie Dupont netted a power play marker just 28 seconds later to make it a 3-2 game heading into the third period, and Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau tallied the equalizer with just 4:25 left in regulation.
Sauer’s game-winner was his second tally of the season, and he was assisted by fellow blueliner Brian Fahey. Wolf Pack goaltender Miika Wiikman picked up the victory with 36 saves on 39 shots.
ALBANY 3, NORFOLK 2 (SO)
Bryan Rodney scored twice in the shootout, including the decisive marker in the eighth round, as Albany emerged with a 3-2 win over visiting Norfolk at the Times Union Center.
Albany’s Nicolas Blanchard and Stefan Chaput exchanged regulation goals with Norfolk’s Vladimir Mihalik – his first of the season – and Blair Jones.
Chaput and Michael Ryan added shootout markers for the River Rats. Albany goaltender Daniel Manzato made 31 saves through regulation and overtime, and he denied five of Norfolk’s eight shootout tries.
Brandon Bochenski, Zenon Konopka, and Jamie Heward all scored in the shootout for the Admirals, who will square off with the River Rats in a rematch on Friday in Albany.
LOWELL 6, SPRINGFIELD 4
Patrick Davis tallied a goal and two assists as Lowell took a 6-4 win over intra-state rival Springfield at Tsongas Arena.
Vladimir Zharkov and Ryan Murphy each recorded a goal and an assist for the Devils, who scored three times in the third period to secure the victory.
Alexander Vasyunov, Anssi Salmela, and Chad Wiseman added tallies, and goaltender Jeff Frazee made 27 saves in the winning effort.
Sebastien Bisaillon netted a pair of goals for the Falcons, while Ryan Potulny and Bryan Lerg posted a goal and a helper. Springfield has now dropped five straight games.
WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON 4, WORCESTER 1
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period and cruised to a 4-1 road win over Worcester at the DCU Center.
Ryan Stone and Chris Minard tallied goals in the first 20 minutes for the Penguins, who then received a second-period marker from rookie Luca Caputi and a third-period tally from Ben Lovejoy.
Stone, Caputi, and Lovejoy each added assists for multiple-point efforts, and defenseman Danny Richmond chipped in a pair of assists. Penguins goaltender Adam Berkhoel picked up the victory with 27 shots on 28 shots.
Sharks rookie Steven Zalewski tallied his team’s lone goal of the night in the second period, as Worcester’s three-game home winning streak came to an end.
