AHL hits its goal — 200,000 times

The AHL is proud to announce the achievement of a significant milestone in league history.

On Dec. 2 at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba’s Lee Goren beat Cincinnati goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov at 9:43 of the third period to give the Moose a 3-1 lead. The power-play goal was the 200,000th goal ever scored in the AHL regular season.

The milestone goal was more than 68 years in the making. Since the AHL began play with its first games on Nov. 7, 1936, there have been nearly 29,000 games played in the regular season.

Goren’s historic goal was his second of the night. He completed the hat trick later in the period, and Manitoba went on to a 4-1 victory.

The Hershey Bears have scored more goals than any other AHL franchise, scoring 17,347 times through last week’s games.

The individual all-time leader in goals scored is Willie Marshall, who netted 523 goals in his 20-year career.
