Providence tied up the Eastern Conference Finals at one game apiece with a 2-1 win over Syracuse last night (recap)… Jordan Szwarz scored both Bruins goals, including the winner 8:28 into overtime… Providence had lost its previous eight playoff OT games, dating back to 2015… Game 3 is Wednesday night in Syracuse.

San Jose scored three power-play goals and evened the Western Conference Finals with a 4-2 win over Grand Rapids in Game 2 last night (recap)… With another goal and an assist in Game 2, Barracuda forward Ryan Carpenter continues to lead the AHL in postseason scoring (8-8-16)… The series moves to Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids for the next three games beginning Wednesday night.

In the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs yesterday, Bryan Rust recorded a goal and an assist, Carter Rowney notched three assists and Matt Murray made 25 saves as Pittsburgh shut out Ottawa, 7-0, in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals… Rust, Rowney and Murray were among nine former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in Pittsburgh’s lineup.
In the 2017 IIHF World Championships yesterday, former Toronto Marlies standout William Nylander earned tournament MVP honors following Sweden’s 2-1 shootout win over Canada in the gold-medal match… Captain Joel Lundqvist, a 2007 AHL All-Star, became the second player to win three World Championship gold medals for Sweden… Andrei Vasilevskiy made 26 saves for his seventh victory of the tournament as Russia captured the bronze medal with a 5-3 win over Finland.
On This Date
May 22, 2012 – Dustin Tokarski makes 29 saves for his second consecutive shutout as Norfolk finishes a four-game sweep of St. John’s and moves on to the Calder Cup Finals.
May 22, 2002 – Raffi Torres breaks a scoreless tie with 1:27 left in regulation and Rick DiPietro posts the fifth Game 7 shutout in AHL history as Bridgeport advances to the Calder Cup Finals with a 3-0 win over Hamilton.
