AHL Quick Hits: Bears, Amerks renew rivalry

On Wednesday, Adam Berkhoel registered a 46-save shutout as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton downed Lowell, 5-0… Rookie Zack Smith scored the game-tying and game-winning goals to help Binghamton rally past Albany in overtime, 4-3… Jeremy Williams had the tying and winning goals in Toronto’s 4-3 OT decision over Hamilton… Cory Larose tied the game late and added a shootout goal as Worcester beat Hartford, 5-4… Brian Willsie’s fifth goal in as many games lifted Lake Erie by Milwaukee, 4-3.

Houston brings the AHL’s lone remaining perfect record (4-0-0-0) north of the border for a three-game weekend in Manitoba (Friday, Saturday) and Toronto (Sunday)… The Aeros have won seven straight meetings with the Moose – allowing a total of seven goals – since a 4-1 loss on Dec. 13, 2006… Corey Locke has a point in three straight games (3-4-7) for Houston, and his seven points overall are tops on the team… Krys Kolanos, back from an NHL stint with Minnesota, shows three goals in two AHL games this year… Ryan Hamilton brings a three-game goal-scoring run (3-2-5) into the weekend… Manitoba has won two straight since dropping its first two games of the year… Michel Ouellet has a point in all four Moose contests this year for a team-high six points (1-5-6)… Manitoba goaltender Cory Schneider is 16-4-2 in his last 22 regular-season decisions.

Norfolk continues a five-game Western Conference road trip this weekend with two games in Rockford and one in Grand Rapids… The IceHogs roster features six players who skated for the Admirals before the Chicago Blackhawks moved their AHL affiliate from Norfolk to Rockford in 2007 including Jack Skille, back in Rockford after beginning this season with the ‘Hawks… Defenseman Cam Barker, another ex-Admiral, has three goals and four points in five games to begin the year for the IceHogs… Rockford’s power play ranks second in the league at 27.0 percent (10-for-37)… Paul Szczechura leads Norfolk with seven points (3-4-7) on the young season while Brandon Segal (3-3-6) has at least one in all four of the Ads’ games.

Binghamton puts its 4-0-0-0 mark to the test with visits to Syracuse on Friday and Hershey on Saturday… Zack Smith paces AHL rookies with five goals on the season, including at least one in four straight games, while his six points are tied for the rookie lead… Binghamton forwards Ilya Zubov (2-3-5) and Ryan Shannon (2-2-4) have each registered a point in three of their last four contests… Binghamton enters the weekend second in the AHL in goals allowed (1.80 per game); the Bears, who are idle on Friday, are tops in offense (5.50 goals per game)… Keith Aucoin leads the AHL with 14 points (4-10-14), while Graham Mink and former Senator Alexandre Giroux are pacing the circuit with six goals apiece.
