The San Jose Barracuda announced today that the club has re-signed captain John McCarthy to a one-year AHL contact for the 2019-20 season.

“John’s role within the Sharks organization has been vital to the success of both the Sharks and Barracuda. He is the flag bearer of the high standards we want to instill in all of our players,” said Barracuda general manager Joe Will. “Every home-grown player in the Sharks organization has been positively influenced by John, as both hockey players and people.”

McCarthy, 32, completed his 10th professional season in 2018-19, recording 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points in 67 games with the Barracuda and helping the club reach the Calder Cup Playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.

A U.S. Olympian in 2018, McCarthy has skated in 559 career AHL games with San Jose, Chicago and Worcester, totaling 126 goals and 167 assists for 293 points. He is the Barracuda’s all-time leader in games played (257), goals (58), assists (76) and points (134).

Originally drafted by the Sharks in 2006, McCarthy also has three goals and three assists in 88 career NHL games, all with San Jose.
