Bears drop Monarchs, go up 2-0 in series

Mike Green scored twice and Hershey killed off 13 of 14 shorthanded situations en route to a 4-1 victory over Manchester in Game 2 of the AHL’s Eastern Conference Final at the Giant Center on Sunday evening.

The Bears will take a 2-0 series lead into Wednesday’s Game 3 in Manchester.

Green, who played 70 NHL games with Washington in 2006-07, leads all AHL defensemen with six goals this postseason.

Kyle Wilson snapped a 1-1 tie with a power-play goal in the final minute of the first period and Matt Hendricks closed out the scoring with a late empty-net goal as the Bears won for the 10th time in 12 playoff outings.

Frederic Cassivi improved his postseason record to 26-7 over the last two springs by stopping 30 of 31 Monarchs shots.

Patrick O’Sullivan had the only goal for Manchester, his eighth.

Attendance in Hershey was 8,346.
