Bears ink forward Darren Reid for 2008-09

The AHL’s Hershey Bears announced today that they have signed right wing Darren Reid to a contract for the 2008-09 season.

Reid comes to the organization after playing for the Philadelphia Phantoms last season. The Lac La Biche, Alberta, native posted 24 goals and 51 points in 84 games over the last two seasons with the Phantoms, including 21 points (8-13-21) in 41 games during the 2007-08 campaign. He added three points (1-2-3) in nine Calder Cup Playoff games for Philadelphia last spring.

Reid has totaled 91 points (36-55-91) in 200 career AHL games with Springfield and Philadelphia.

The 25-year-old Reid has also skated in 21 NHL games with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Philadelphia Flyers and shows one assist. He was originally drafted by the Lightning in 2002.

The Bears also announced that they have signed forward Tom Maxwell for the 2008-09 campaign.

Maxwell, 22, played in just 18 pro games in 2007-08 between Hershey and South Carolina (ECHL) due to injury. In nine games with the Bears last season, Maxwell piled up 44 minutes in penalties, and accumulated another 28 minutes with the Stingrays.
