Bears sign Orlov to tryout

The 2010 Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears announced on Tuesday that the club has signed defenseman Dmitri Orlov to an amateur tryout contract.

Orlov, 19, was Washington’s second-round selection (55th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He won a gold medal while skating for Russia at the 2011 World Junior Championships in Buffalo, N.Y., this past January, and skated this season with Novokuznetsk Metallurg (KHL).

Orlov scored two goals and assisted on 10 others in 45 games for Novokuznetsk in 2010-11.

He also represented Russia in the 2010 World Junior Championships in Saskatoon, Sask. He won a silver medal while playing for Russia in the Under-18 World Championships in 2008-09, and was named one of Russia’s top three players in the tournament.

A native of Novokuznetsk, Russia, Orlov is 5-foot-11, 202 pounds.
