Clarkson named CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Lowell Devils right wing David Clarkson has been named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 14, 2007.

Clarkson tallied five goals and three assists for eight points, along with a plus-6 rating, in two games last week.

On Friday night, Clarkson scored four goals and assisted on the game-winner in the final minute of regulation as Lowell claimed a 5-3 decision from visiting Philadelphia. In a rematch with the Phantoms on Sunday, Clarkson scored once more and added two assists as the Devils beat the Phantoms, 6-3.

In recognition of his achievement, Clarkson will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Devils home game.

A second-year pro out of Mimico, Ont., Clarkson is third on Lowell with 11 goals and tied for fourth with 21 points in 32 games this season. The 22-year-old winger compiled 34 points (13g, 21a) and a team-high 233 penalty minutes in his rookie year skating with the Albany River Rats. Signed as a free agent by the New Jersey Devils on Aug, 12, 2005, Clarkson played junior hockey in the OHL, winning a Memorial Cup with Kitchener in 2003.
