Flyers sign Knight, Varone, Vecchione

The Philadelphia Flyers, parent club of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, have signed forwards Corban Knight, Phil Varone and Mike Vecchione to two-year contracts.

A 26-year-old center from Oliver, B.C., Knight recently completed his fourth professional season where he finished fifth among all Phantoms with 29 assists and tied for seventh on Lehigh Valley’s roster with 40 total points.

A fifth-round selection (135th overall) by the Florida Panthers in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Knight has compiled 49 goals, 82 assists and 131 points in 233 career AHL outings in addition to three goals and eight points across 29 NHL games.

A 26-year-old center from Vaughan, Ont., Varone recently completed his sixth professional campaign where he led all Binghamton Senators with 36 assists and tied for the club lead with 51 total points.

A fifth-round selection (147th overall) by the San Jose Sharks in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Varone has amassed 89 goals, 209 assists and 298 total points in 392 career AHL games with the Senators and Rochester Americans. In addition, Varone has recorded five goals and 10 points in 50 career NHL outings with Buffalo and Ottawa.

A 24-year-old center from Saugus, Mass., Vecchione is entering his first professional season after four years at Union College. In 149 games with the Dutchmen, he registered 71 goals, 105 assists and 176 total points and was part of Union’s championship squad in 2014.
