IceHogs edge Milwaukee on late goal

ROCKFORD 2, MILWAUKEE 1

Pete MacArthur broke a 1-1 tie with 4:46 to play in regulation to give Rockford a 2-1 win over Milwaukee on Monday at the MetroCentre. MacArthur’s 10th goal of the season was assisted by Evan Brophey and Tim Brent, and it lifted the IceHogs into a tie with Peoria for third place in the West Division race. Both clubs have 76 points, and Rockford still holds a game in hand.

The IceHogs grabbed the early 1-0 lead when Jack Skille scored at 4:35 of the opening period, assists going to Pascal Pelletier and Tyler Mosienko.

Admirals forward Ryan Maki tied it on the power play with just two minutes to play in the second frame, setting the stage for MacArthur’s winning goal in the third.

IceHogs goaltender Antti Niemi earned the victory in net, stopping 23 of 24 shots to improve his season mark to 15-12-3.

Combined with their 3-2 shootout triumph over Manitoba on Saturday, the IceHogs (34-29-0-6) have strung together consecutive wins for the first time in the month of March.
