Islanders sign Shore Award winner Brennan

The New York Islanders have announced the signing of defenseman T.J. Brennan to a one-year, one-way contract for 2014-15.

Brennan is coming off a career year in which he earned the Eddie Shore Award as the outstanding defenseman in the American Hockey League. Brennan played all 76 games for the Toronto Marlies in 2013-14 and registered the most points (72) by an AHL defenseman since 2005-06 and the most goals (25) since 1999-2000.

Brennan participated in the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic, and was named a First Team AHL All-Star.

Brennan, 25, has played 301 AHL games in his five professional seasons, totaling 76 goals and 123 assists for 199 points with Portland, Rochester and Toronto. He has added eight goals and 10 assists in 25 Calder Cup Playoff games.

A second-round draft pick (31st overall) by Buffalo in 2007, Brennan has also skated in 40 career NHL games with Buffalo and Florida, recording four goals and seven assists.
