Marlies finish off Milwaukee in Game 3

The Toronto Marlies advanced to the second round of the Calder Cup Playoffs with a 2-0 win over the Milwaukee Admirals at Ricoh Coliseum on Thursday night, completing a three-game sweep of their Western Conference quarterfinal.

Toronto, the third seed in the Western Conference, swept its first-round opponent for the third consecutive postseason.

Greg McKegg scored the only goal Toronto would need on a power play with 2:29 remaining in the second period, finishing off a nifty tic-tac-toe passing play by burying a cross-ice feed from Jerry D’Amigo. Stuart Percy also drew an assist on McKegg’s first goal of the postseason.

With Marek Mazanec off for an extra attacker, T.J. Brennan scored from center ice with 24.1 seconds left — the Marlies’ fourth empty-netter of the series — to finish the scoring.

Drew MacIntyre made 29 saves on the night for his 35th career AHL playoff win and his sixth postseason shutout. Mazanec stopped 21 of 22 shots in the loss.

Toronto outscored Milwaukee 13-4 in the series.
