Marlies knock off Amerks in preseason finale

The final warm-up for the 2006-07 American Hockey League season saw the Toronto Marlies post a 5-2 win over the Rochester Americans at Ricoh Coliseum on Monday afternoon.

Students from schools all over the Greater Toronto Area attended the game as part of the Marlies’ partnership with the Canadian Safe Schools Network partnership.

Owen Fussey, Brett Engelhardt, Alex Foster, Erik Westrum and Kris Newbury scored for Toronto. David Booth and Michael Ryan had the Rochester goals.

J.F. Racine made 31 saves for the win while Jean-Marc Pelletier stopped 28 in the loss.

The AHL’s 71st regular season begins on Wednesday night when Manitoba visits Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
