Moose double up Monarchs in first of two-game set

MANITOBA 4, MANCHESTER 2

Jason Krog netted a pair of goals, giving him four tallies in his last three games, as Manitoba doubled up visiting Manchester by a 4-2 count on Tuesday at the MTS Centre in the opener of the teams’ two-game set.

Dirk Southern and Michael Grabner also scored for the Moose, who captured their second straight win following a three-game losing skid.

Krog scored the first period’s lone goal on the power play at the 14:04 mark.

Southern made it 2-0 at 3:08 of the second, and Krog extended the lead to 3-0 at the 7:54 mark. Defenseman Daniel Rahimi assisted on both of Manitoba’s second-period markers.

After the Monarchs got on the board late in the second, Grabner scored unassisted just two minutes into third to restore Manitoba’s two-goal edge. It was Grabner’s 10th tally of the campaign.

Moose goaltender Karl Goehring earned the victory in net with 22 saves on 24 shots.

Ryan Murphy and Dusty Collins each scored his first goal of the season for the Monarchs. Collins’ was the first of his AHL career.

The teams will meet again on Wednesday at the MTS Centre.
