Moose top Heat, move closer to third

Jordan Schroeder tallied the game-winning goal and added an assist as Manitoba rolled to a 5-2 win over Abbotsford on Monday at the Entertainment & Sports Centre.

The Moose moved within one point of the Heat for third place in the North Division while increasing their lead on fifth-place Toronto to five points.

Guillaume Desbiens and Mario Bliznak also recorded a goal and a helper for the Moose, while Aaron Volpatti and Taylor Ellington rounded out the offense. Volpatti netted his first goal as a professional.

Matt Pope contributed two assists, and Manitoba goaltender Cory Schneider earned the victory with 17 saves on 19 shots.

Defensemen Andy Delmore (1-1-2) and Staffan Kronwall scored for the Heat, who are winless in five straight games (0-4-1-0) and will look for revenge when the teams collide again on Tuesday night.
