Albany was less than 30 seconds away from falling behind in the North Division Finals on Sunday, but some late heroics by Nick Lappin instead gave the Devils a 2-1 series lead heading into Game 4 vs. Toronto tonight… Lappin (3-1-4) scored with 21.0 seconds left in regulation to tie the game, then again at 18:40 of overtime to give Albany a 3-2 win in Game 3… Lappin also finished with a game-high 11 shots on goal… Albany captain Rod Pelley (1-0-1) opened the scoring in Game 3 with the first postseason goal (and point) of his 10-year professional career… The Devils’ special teams were 8-for-8 on the penalty kill in Game 3, scored two shorthanded goals in regulation and got the winner in OT on a power play… For the postseason, the Devils’ penalty killers have now allowed one goal (29-for-30, 96.7 percent) and scored four… Scott Wedgewood (5-2, 2.16, .918) made 25 saves in the Game 3 win… Josh Leivo (1-3-4) and William Nylander (2-1-3) scored for the Marlies, who were outshot 22-11 over the third period and overtime and 39-27 for the game… Toronto defensemen Connor Carrick (4-6-10) and T.J. Brennan (4-0-4) have combined for 7-6-13 in the Marlies’ four playoff wins, and 1-0-1 in their two losses… Albany is now 3-0 at home this postseason… Game 3 was the Marlies’ first non-shootout loss on the road since Mar. 13, also at Albany.

Joonas Korpisalo and the Lake Erie Monsters have Grand Rapids on the brink of elimination as the Griffins host Game 4 of the Central Division Finals tonight at Van Andel Arena… Korpisalo (6-0, 1.93, .930) made 41 saves in the Monsters’ 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon, giving them a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series… Josh Anderson (5-2-7) and Zach Werenski (3-3-6) provided Lake Erie’s offense in Game 3 as the Monsters became the sixth team since 2001 to begin a Calder Cup postseason 6-0 (see below)… Lake Erie was 0-for-3 on the power play in Game 3 but remains first in the league in efficiency this postseason (9-for-26, 34.6 percent)… Ryan Sproul (1-3-4) scored the Griffins’ only goal on Sunday, his first tally in his last 19 postseason contests… Making his 20th consecutive postseason start going back to last spring, Tom McCollum (3-3, 1.96, .932) made 21 saves in the Game 3 loss… This is the fourth time in its AHL history that Grand Rapids has been down 0-3 in a best-of-seven series; the Griffins were swept each of the three previous occasions (2004 vs. Chicago, 2006 vs. Milwaukee, 2009 vs. Manitoba)… Grand Rapids is 7-3 on home ice when facing elimination from the Calder Cup Playoffs.

In Stanley Cup Playoff action last night, Viktor Arvidsson scored his first career Stanley Cup Playoff goal in overtime to give Nashville a 4-3 win over San Jose and push their second-round series to a Game 7… Arvidsson was an AHL All-Rookie Team selection in 2014-15 and had 8-10-18 in 17 AHL games with Milwaukee earlier this season, including a 13-game scoring streak that was tied for the longest in the AHL in 2015-16… Chris Tierney, who spent some time with the San Jose Barracuda earlier this season, scored twice for the Sharks… 2004-05 AHL MVP Jason Spezza scored what would be the winning goal and 2014 AHL All-Star Colton Sceviour recorded two assists as Dallas defeated St. Louis, 3-2, in Game 6 of their second-round series… Two-time AHL All-Star and 2005 Calder Cup finalist Kari Lehtonen made 35 saves for the Stars.

At the IIHF World Championships in Russia yesterday, Michael Matheson, who played 54 AHL games with Portland in 2015-16, scored his second goal of the tournament in Canada’s 8-0 win over Belarus… Frank Vatrano, co-winner of the Dudley (Red) Garrett Award as the AHL’s outstanding rookie in 2015-16, scored for the United States in their 3-2 loss to Finland.
