Bulldogs outlast Wolves in OT

Matt D’Agostini and Andrei Kostitsyn both registered a pair of goals and an assist, but it was center Corey Locke who played the hero for Hamilton, scoring the game-winning goal with 13 seconds left in overtime to give the Bulldogs a 6-5 win over the visiting Chicago Wolves at Copps Coliseum on Friday night.

Mikhail Grabovski recorded a pair of assists as 12 different players registered at least one point on the night for Hamilton, which remains unbeaten in regulation in its last eight contests, going 6-0-1-1.

Yann Danis earned his 15th win of the year stopping 26 shots for the Bulldogs, who went 3-for-7 on the power play to hand the Wolves their third defeat, eight games into their nine-game road trip.

Derek MacKenzie led Chicago with a goal and an assist and Brett Sterling scored his league-leading 43rd goal on the year in the loss. The Wolves rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the third period to earn the point in the standings.


PROVIDENCE 5, WORCESTER 4 (OT)
Providence defenseman Nathan Dempsey scored a pair of goals and added an assist and teammate Ben Walter netted the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Bruins a 5-4 win over Worcester at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

Petr Kalus and Matt Lashoff each recorded three assists on the night as the P-Bruins scored four of its five goals on the power play, going 4-for-12 on the man advantage.

Netminder Jordan Sigalet made 15 saves on the night to improve his record to 11-3-2 for Providence, which remain in second place in the Atlantic with a 28-20-1-3 record and 60 points.

Lukas Kaspar led the Worcester offense with a goal and an assist in the loss. The Sharks rallied from four separate one-goal deficits to get the game to overtime.


PORTLAND 2, WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON 1
A pair of power-play goals proved to be the difference as the Portland Pirates downed the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 2-1 at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza, ending an 11-game road winless streak (0-7-2-2).

Former Penguin Sebastien Caron stopped 21 of 22 shots in the contest to hand Wilkes-Barre only its fifth loss in regulation at home this season.

Tim Brent and Joe Motzko provided the tallies for the Pirates, while Eric Weinrich recorded two assists. After losing seven straight games, Portland has now won two of its last three.

Jean-Francois Jacques scored the lone goal in the loss for the Pens, spoiling Caron’s shutout bid with two seconds left in regulation.


ALBANY 4, NORFOLK 2
The River Rats scored four unanswered goals to double up the league-leading Admirals by a score of 4-2 at Scope, ending Norfolk’s 14-game home winning streak.

After facing a 2-0 deficit late in the first period, Albany fought its way back with two goals and an assist from rookie Jakub Petruzalek.

Keith Aucoin had a goal and an assist and Matt Murley added three helpers for Albany, which ended its four-game losing skid with the win.
Justin Peters stopped 19 of 21 shots to earn his ninth win of the year with the River Rats.

Martin St. Pierre led Norfolk in the loss with a goal and an assist, extending his scoring streak to 10 games.


BRIDGEPORT 4, HERSHEY 2
Wade Dubielewicz backstopped the Bridgeport Sound Tigers to a 4-2 win over the Hershey Bears by making a franchise-record 52 saves on 54 shots at the Arena at Harbor Yard.

Jeremy Colliton, Robert Nilsson and Eric Boguniecki all tallied a goal and an assist for Bridgeport, which has won three straight games.

Jakub Klepis and Louis Robitaille scored in a losing effort for Hershey.

Dubielewicz’s 52-save effort came just three weeks after he stopped 51 shots in a win at Hershey on Jan. 20.


MANITOBA 3, SYRACUSE 2 (SO)
Lee Goren ended a marathon shootout by scoring the decisive goal in the 14th round to give the Moose a 3-2 win over the Syracuse Crunch at the MTS Centre.

Drew MacIntyre stopped 30 of 32 shots and 11 of 14 players in the shootout to lift Manitoba to its second straight win.

J.J. Hunter and Dustin Wood each scored a goal and an assist on the night for the Moose, who competed in their third game going past regulation play in the last six contests.

Curtis Glencross scored both Crunch goals and was a plus-2 in the loss for Syracuse.


MANCHESTER 2, LOWELL 0
Jason LaBarbera stopped all 39 shots he faced from Lowell as the Monarchs defeated the Devils by a score of 2-0 at home.

LaBarbera moved into ties for the league lead with his sixth shutout and 28th win of the year as Manchester ran its winning streak to 10 games.

Tim Jackman and Kevin Dallman both registered goals for the Monarchs, who extended their lead atop the Atlantic Division with a record of 32-12-6-1 and 71 points.


PHILADELPHIA 3, ROCHESTER 2
Three second-period goals proved to be enough as the visiting Philadelphia Phantoms defeated Rochester by a score of 3-2 at the Blue Cross Arena.

Pete Zingoni, Eric Meloche and Darren Reid all scored in the second period and eight different players recorded points on the night for the Phantoms, who have earned eight out of a possible 12 points in their last six games (3-1-0-2).

Martin Houle stopped 26 of 28 shots to earn his seventh win of the year for Philadelphia.

Drew Stafford and Anthony Stewart both registered goals for Rochester, which has dropped its last three games.


HARTFORD 2, SPRINGFIELD 1
After falling into an early 1-0 hole, the Hartford Wolf Pack rallied to defeat the Springfield Falcons by a score of 2-1 in the first of a two-game set at the MassMutual Center over the weekend.

Brandon Dubinsky tallied a goal and an assist and netminder Stephen Valiquette stopped 23 of 24 shots for Hartford, who got back into the win column after dropping two straight games.

Dane Byers provided the other goal for the Wolf Pack.

David Spina scored the lone goal and netminder Karri Ramo made 39 saves for the Falcons, who have now lost nine consecutive games.


MILWAUKEE 3, SAN ANTONIO 2 (SO)
Pekka Rinne made 28 saves in regulation and overtime and stopped all five Rampage players in a shootout to give the Milwaukee Admirals a 3-2 victory at home over San Antonio.

Ramzi Abid and Rich Peverley each scored in regulation for the Admirals, and defenseman Nolan Yonkman netted the only goal of the shootout to give Milwaukee its third straight win at home, all of which were decided by a score of 3-2.

Matthew Spiller and Jeff Taffe provided goals for San Antonio, which has dropped five of its eight games on a 16-game road trip.


GRAND RAPIDS 4, IOWA 0
Jimmy Howard stopped all 28 shots he faced to earn his third shutout of the season as Grand Rapids defeated the Iowa Stars by a score of 4-0 at Wells Fargo Arena.

Darryl Bootland netted a pair of goals and teammate Matt Hussey had a goal and an assist on the night to extend the Griffins’ winning streak to three straight games, where they have outscored opponents by a total of 14-6.

Eric Himelfarb also tallied for the Grand Rapids, which had eight different players score at least a point in the match-up.
