The Charlotte Checkers announced that they have signed goaltender Anthony Peters, defenseman Kevin Raine and forwards Mike Ferrantino and Levko Koper to two-way AHL contracts.
Peters, 25, enters his second season with the Checkers organization. In 2015-16, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound native of Blyth, Ontario, suited up for one game with Charlotte, with his 44 saves against Grand Rapids on Feb. 20 holding up as the most by a Checkers goalie all season. He is the younger brother for former Checkers goaltender Justin Peters.
Raine, 23, joins the Checkers after spending the previous two seasons in the Los Angeles Kings organization. An undrafted native of Dryden, Ontario, Raine (6’2”, 205 lbs.) has posted nine points (3g, 6a) in 117 career AHL games with Portland, Manchester and Ontario, not including one assist in four playoff games during Manchester’s run to the Calder Cup as AHL champions in 2015.
Koper, 25, also begins his first full professional season after a five-year collegiate career with the University of Alberta. While with the Golden Bears, the 6 foot, 193-pound winger originally from Edmonton, Alberta, amassed 139 points (51g, 88a) in 140 games and captured a CIS national championship in 2014. Prior to his time at university, Koper played five junior seasons with Spokane of the WHL, two of which were under current Carolina Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters, where he scored 226 points (97g, 129a) in 330 career games and captured a Memorial Cup in 2008.
