Coyotes sign Leavitt to multi-year contract

The Phoenix Coyotes, parent club of the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage, on Thursday announced that they have signed free-agent center Alex Leavitt to a multi-year contract.

As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Leavitt was acquired by San Antonio from the Houston Aeros on Mar. 1. He has collected an impressive four goals and seven assists for 11 points, along with a plus-11 rating, in four games with the Rampage.

Leavitt was named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Mar. 4, 2007, after recording six points and a plus-7 rating in his first two games with the Rampage.

Prior to joining San Antonio, Leavitt registered two goals and nine assists for 11 points in 23 AHL games for the Aeros. He also played 30 games with the Texas Wildcatters (ECHL), recording 10 goals and 14 assists.

During the 2005-06 season, the 23-year-old native of Edmonton, Alta., played 72 games with the Alaska Aces (ECHL), collecting 26 goals and 65 assists for 91 points. Leavitt led the ECHL in assists and points, was named the league’s rookie of the year and helped the Aces to the 2006 Kelly Cup championship.


The Coyotes also announced on Thursday that they have assigned center Yanick Lehoux to San Antonio. In seven games with the Coyotes this season, Lehoux has recorded one goal and two assists.

In 59 games with the Rampage, Lehoux has collected 25 goals and 37 assists for a team-high 62 points.
