The Syracuse Crunch unveiled today a special Syracuse Stars throwback jersey that the club will wear for the first two games of the 2010-11 campaign to help commemorate the AHL’s 75th anniversary season.
The Crunch will travel to Cleveland to take on the Lake Erie Monsters on October 8 at Quicken Loans Arena, before opening their home schedule on October 9 at the War Memorial at Oncenter in one of three special home-and-home series in the first week of the season involving the AHL’s six senior-most cities.
Each of the six teams will wear throwback uniforms, with the Crunch donning the sweaters of the Syracuse Stars, who won the Calder Cup during the league’s inaugural 1936-37 season.
The jerseys are primarily red and blue with cream accents. The top third of the sweater is red with cream-colored stars patterned across the shoulder area. The middle third of the jersey features blue and cream horizontal piping with the word ‘SYRACUSE’ written in cream inside a blue stripe embedded directly above the word ‘STARS’ written in red inside a cream stripe in block letters. The bottom third of the jersey is primarily blue.
The other two home-and-home series will feature Providence vs. Springfield on October 8 and 9 and Hershey vs. Rochester on October 10 and 16. Syracuse, Providence, Springfield and Cleveland were among the league’s charter cities in 1936, with Hershey coming aboard in 1938 and Rochester hitting the ice in 1956.
