Karl Goehring made 28 saves as Syracuse posted a 2-1 win over Philadelphia at the Onondaga County War Memorial on Sunday evening, putting an end to the Phantoms’ AHL-record 17-game winning streak.
Tim Jackman and Aaron Johnson scored for the Crunch, who survived a late scare to improve to 8-8-2-3.
The loss, Philadelphia’s first since the opening weekend of the season, dropped the Phantoms to 17-3-0-0 on the year.
R.J. Umberger broke up Goehring’s shutout bid with 40 seconds left in regulation, but the Crunch were able to hold on.
Antero Niittymaki made 29 saves for Philadelphia, but saw his personal 12-game winning streak come to an end.
Meanwhile, at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Manchester fended off a late rally and recorded a 5-4 win over the Lock Monsters on Sunday, the Monarchs’ 11th straight win and 18th victory in 19 games this season.
Tim Gleason scored twice for Manchester, and Tom Kostopoulos netted the game-winner with just 1:47 left in regulation, a mere 18 seconds after Lowell had tied the score.
Mathieu Garon made 31 saves to improve to 12-1-0 on the season.
