Danis announces retirement

Yann Danis, a three-time AHL All-Star and former goaltender of the year in the American Hockey League, officially announced his retirement on Sunday.

The 36-year-old from Lafontaine, Que., spent parts of 12 seasons in the AHL with the Hamilton Bulldogs, Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Oklahoma City Barons, Adirondack Phantoms, Norfolk Admirals, Hartford Wolf Pack, Albany Devils and St. John’s IceCaps. He posted a record of 205-144-43 in 414 appearances, ranking 13th all-time in victories, 17th in games played by a goaltender and eighth with 29 shutouts.

Danis won the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Award as the AHL’s top goaltender in 2011-12. He also participated in the AHL All-Star Classic in 2006, 2012 and 2016, and was a member of Hamilton’s Calder Cup championship team in 2007.

Undrafted out of Brown University, Danis also played 55 games in the National Hockey League with Montreal, the N.Y. Islanders, New Jersey and Edmonton.
