The New Jersey Devils have named Mark Dennehy head coach of their American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Devils.
Dennehy replaces Rick Kowalsky, who was promoted to New Jersey as an assistant coach last week. Dennehy, 50, joins the Devils organization from Wheeling (ECHL), where he was named head coach and director of hockey operations on May 29, 2018.
A native of Dorchester, Mass., Dennehy most recently spent 13 seasons as head coach at Merrimack College, earning Hockey East conference coach of the year honors in 2009-10 and guiding the team to the second NCAA tournament appearance in program history in 2011.
Dennehy spent one season (1999-2000) as head coach at Fairfield University, and has also been an assistant and Princeton (1994-99) and UMass-Amherst (2000-05).
Dennehy will serve as head coach for the United States’ U-17 select team at the Five Nations Tournament in Piestany, Slovakia, later this month.
