The Carolina Hurricanes on Monday announced that the team has recalled goaltender John Muse from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League. Muse is being recalled on an emergency basis after goaltender Dan Ellis suffered a lower-body injury in Carolina’s game on Thursday against New Jersey.
This marks the first NHL recall for the 24-year-old Muse, who is in his second full professional season. The East Falmouth, Mass., native has posted a 6-6-0 record and a 3.48 goals-against average in 13 games with Charlotte this season. He was recalled to Charlotte from the Florida Everblades of the ECHL on Jan. 12. He was 9-8-4 with a 3.66 GAA in 21 games with the Everblades prior to joining the Checkers.
In 2011-12, Muse backstopped Florida to the ECHL Kelly Cup championship. He also posted a 10-3-3 record, 1.81 GAA and a .941 save percentage in 15 regular-season games with Charlotte last season. Muse won two NCAA championships (2008, 2010), three Hockey East Tournament titles (2008, 2010, 2011) and three Beanpot championships (2008, 2010, 2011) during his four-year collegiate career at Boston College.
