The St. John’s IceCaps have agreed to terms with John Albert, Jake Marto, Ryan Schnell and Hunter Tremblay on American Hockey League contracts.
Albert, 23, played in 64 games with the IceCaps last season, his first professional campaign. In that time, the left-handed center recorded 27 points (nine goals, 18 assists) and 28 penalty minutes. He also suited up for 15 postseason games with the IceCaps where he accumulated five points (3g, 2a) and eight penalty minutes.
Albert was originally drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the sixth round, 175th overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. The Cleveland native played four seasons (2007-11) at Ohio State University.
Marto, 25, played in 12 games with the IceCaps as a rookie last season where he recorded three assists. The Grand Forks, N.D., native played the majority of the season in the ECHL with the Colorado Eagles where he earned 16 points (2g, 14a) and 12 penalty minutes in 42 games.
Undrafted, Marto played four years (2007-11) at the University of North Dakota.
Schnell, 23, played 12 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last season where he earned one assist and 46 penalty minutes. He also played in 18 games with the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers for four assists and 108 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-3, 225-pound forward has played in 23 career AHL games over his first three professional seasons.
Tremblay, 26, played in 68 games with the Oklahoma City Barons during the 2011-12 season. In that span, the Timmins, Ont., native recorded 31 points (16g, 15a) and tied for the AHL lead with five shorthanded goals. Tremblay also appeared in eight Calder Cup Playoff games for the Barons, notching four goals and two assists.
Tremblay made his professional debut with Oklahoma City late in the 2010-11 season following five major junior seasons (2002-07) with Barrie of the OHL and four years (2007-11) at the University of New Brunswick.
