IceCaps sign Newfoundlander King

The Winnipeg Jets, in conjunction with the St. John’s IceCaps, announced Thursday that forward Jason King has agreed to terms on an American Hockey League contract.

As per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

King, 29, has played the past three seasons in Germany, most recently with the Hamburg Freezers. King has played five seasons in the AHL with Manitoba (2002-06) and Portland (2007-08), totaling 106 goals and 102 assists for 208 points in 256 regular-season games and adding 13 goals and 10 assists for 23 points in 40 Calder Cup Playoff contests.

A native of Corner Brook, N.L., King set career highs for goals (29), assists (30) and points (59) with Portland in 2007-08.

King, who participated in the 2005 AHL All-Star Classic, was originally drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the seventh round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He has totaled 12 goals and 11 assists for 23 points in 59 career NHL games with Vancouver and Anaheim.
