The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that they have hired Sheldon Brookbank as an assistant coach with the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs.
Brookbank will join Derek King on head coach Jeremy Colliton’s staff in Rockford.
Brookbank, a Stanley Cup champion with the Blackhawks in 2013, enters the coaching ranks having played 351 NHL games with Nashville, New Jersey, Anaheim and Chicago. He also compiled 126 points in 367 career AHL games with Grand Rapids, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Lowell and Cleveland, and won the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL’s outstanding defenseman in 2006-07.
The Lanigan, Sask., native most recently played in six games during the 2016-17 season with the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters.
