The 2012 Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings, parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have assigned defenseman Slava Voynov to Manchester.
Voynov, 22, recorded 20 points (8g, 12a), a plus-12 rating and 12 penalty minutes in 54 games with the Kings during the 2011-12 regular season, his rookie season with the club. The 5-foot-11, 199-pound native of Chelyabinsk, Russia, also added another three points (1g, 2a) and four penalty minutes in 20 postseason games with the Kings during their successful run to the 2012 Stanley Cup championship.
When compared with other first-year NHL blueliners, Voynov tied for first in goals (8), tied for seventh in assists (12), finished third in points (20) and tied for first in plus-minus rating (plus-12). He made his NHL/Kings debut vs. the St. Louis Blues on Oct. 18, 2011, and he recorded his first three NHL points (2g, 1a) against the Dallas Stars on Oct. 27, 2011.
The Kings selected Voynov in the second-round (32nd overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
A two-time AHL All-Star, Voynov had two goals and two assists in 15 games with Manchester last season. He set career highs in 2010-11, tallying 15 goals, 36 assists and 51 points along with a plus-21 rating for the Monarchs.
