Evan McGrath tallied the game’s lone goal in the second period, and goaltender Daniel Larsson made 29 saves for his second shutout of the season as Grand Rapids took a 1-0 road win over Chicago on Sunday at Allstate Arena.
The Griffins secured their third win in as many days this weekend and improved to 4-0-0-1 in their last five contests.
After a scoreless first period, McGrath put the Grand Rapids on the board 7:24 into the middle stanza.
Aaron Downey and Justin Abdelkader picked up assists on McGrath’s fourth goal of the campaign. Neither side scored in the third period.
The Wolves were blanked for the first time this season and fell to 2-5-0-0 in their last seven outings.
PORTLAND 4, MANCHESTER 0
Colton Fretter scored twice and added an assist as Portland took a 4-0 win over visiting Manchester at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
Derek Whitmore and Nathan Gerbe also scored for the Pirates, while Aaron Slattengren contributed a trio of assists.
Goaltender Jhonas Enroth made 23 saves in a shutout performance for Portland, which snapped a five-game losing skid (0-4-0-1).
Manchester finished 3-2-0-0 in a stretch of playing five games in five different cities over a six-day span.
TORONTO 4, ROCHESTER 3 (SO)
Jeremy Williams netted a pair of shootout goals as Toronto edged Rochester by a 4-3 count at Ricoh Coliseum.
The Marlies also received goals from Ben Ondrus and Jiri Tlusty in the shootout, which lasted eight rounds.
Tlusty, Stefano Giliati, and Alex Foster all netted regulation goals for Toronto. Goaltender Justin Pogge made 18 saves through the first 65 minutes before denying five of Rochester’s seven shootout attempts.
Michal Repik scored in both regulation and the shootout for the Americans. Jason Garrison and Janis Sprukts added regulation markers.
PROVIDENCE 4, HARTFORD 3 (OT)
Brad Marchand scored 3:33 into overtime to give Providence a 4-3 win over visiting Hartford at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.
After Hartford took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal from Brian Fahey in the first period, the Bruins received markers from Martin St. Pierre, Andrew Bodnarchuk, and Martins Karsums to move ahead by a 3-1 count.
The Wolf Pack’s Mike Ouellette made it 3-2 at 11:26 of the second period, and Artem Anisimov scored 6:54 into the third to send the contest to overtime.
Zach Hamill and Johnny Boychuk assisted on Marchand’s goal in the extra session. Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask earned the victory with 29 saves on 32 shots.
WORCESTER 2, LOWELL 1
Second-year defenseman Derek Joslin broke a 1-1 tie 2:58 into the third period, and Worcester went on to a 2-1 win over Lowell at the DCU Center.
Jamie McGinn put the Sharks on top 1-0 with a power play goal at 6:44 of the second period, but the Devils’ Chad Wiseman answered on the power play at 1:08 of the third.
Sharks goaltender Taylor Dakers made 24 saves and improved to 5-0-0 on the campaign. Worcester is now 7-1-0-0 in its last eight outings overall.
The Devils saw their season-high five-game winning streak come to an end.
HERSHEY 3, NORFOLK 2
Hershey scored twice late in the third period to rally past Norfolk by a 3-2 count on Sunday at the Giant Center.
Trailing 2-1, the Bears received goals from Alexandre Giroux at 10:15 of the third – a power play marker – and Andrew Joudrey at 17:50.
Rookie Oskar Osala initially gave the Bears a 1-0 lead at 3:01 of the opening period, but Norfolk’s Grant Potulny and Mathieu Curadeau tallied goals to make it a 2-1 game.
Hershey goaltender Simeon Varlamov made 32 saves in the victory, which was the Bears’ ninth in a row.
BINGHAMTON 5, HAMILTON 3
Mattias Karlsson and Ilya Zubov each tallied a goal and two assists as Binghamton took a 5-3 win over Hamilton at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Que., home of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens.
Josh Hennessy posted a goal and an assist for the Senators, and captain Denis Hamel also lit the lamp. Defenseman Derek Smith chipped in three assists.
Binghamton goaltender Brian Elliott earned the victory with 22 saves on 25 shots.
Defenseman Yannick Weber netted a pair of goals for the Bulldogs, and Max Pacioretty also scored.
HOUSTON 4, MILWAUKEE 2
Houston broke a 2-2 tie with a pair of third-period goals and went on to a 4-2 win over visiting Milwaukee at the Toyota Center, avenging a 2-1 overtime loss to the Admirals on Friday.
Corey Locke scored twice for the Aeros, and Krys Kolanos tallied the game-winner unassisted at 11:08 of the final stanza.
John Lammers added a goal in the victory, and defenseman Clayton Stoner chipped in a pair of assists.
The Admirals received goals from Mike Santorelli and Kelsey Wilson in the losing effort.
