MANCHESTER 7, CHICAGO 4
Manchester’s Trevor Lewis notched a hat trick and added an assist as the Monarchs soared past Chicago by a 7-4 final on Saturday before a crowd of 6,108 at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Lewis netted a goal in each period, and Matt Moulson added a goal and three assists for Manchester. Goaltender Daniel Taylor made 23 saves, improving to 2-0-0 in his AHL career.
Five other Monarchs tallied multiple points on the evening – Teddy Purcell (1-1-2), David Meckler (1-1-2), Peter Harrold (0-3-3), Troy Milam (0-2-2), and Brian Boyle (0-2-2).
Meckler finished with a game-high plus-3 rating for the Monarchs (10-11-2-1), who improved to 4-2-0-0 in their last six contests.
The Wolves took an early 1-0 lead on Joey Crabb’s third goal of the season at 3:22 of the opening period.
Kevin Doell, Steve Martins, and Nathan Oystrick also scored, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Wolves from losing a season-high fourth straight game.
TORONTO 2, BINGHAMTON 1 (OT)
Derrick Walser’s goal at 1:20 of overtime lifted Toronto to a 2-1 victory over visiting Binghamton at Ricoh Coliseum.
Jiri Tlusty scored in regulation for the Marlies, and goaltender Justin Pogge improved to 7-1-3 with 28 saves.
Alexander Nikulin scored the lone goal for the Senators, who fell to 0-1-1-0 on their weekend swing through the North Division.
Binghamton will conclude the weekend at intra-state rival Rochester on Sunday.
SPRINGFIELD 5, LOWELL 2
Springfield jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back on its way to a 5-2 win over Lowell at the MassMutual Center.
Ben Simon and Mathieu Roy each tallied a goal and two assists for the Falcons, and Rob Schremp added a goal and one helper.
Goaltender Jeff Deslauriers picked up the win with 32 saves, helping Springfield improve to 4-0-0-0 against the Devils this season.
Petr Vrana and Olli Malmivaara scored for Lowell.
MILWAUKEE 2, HAMILTON 1
A pair of first-period goals was all Milwaukee would need in taking a 2-1 road win over Hamilton at the Copps Coliseum.
Antti Pihlstrom and Janne Niskala scored for the Admirals, and each player assisted on the other’s goal to finish with multiple-point nights.
Defenseman Marvin Degon netted Hamilton’s lone goal, and goaltender Yann Danis made 32 saves in the losing effort.
Milwaukee goaltender Pekka Rinne earned the win with 23 saves on 24 shots.
PHILADELPHIA 3, HERSHEY 2
Philadelphia took a 3-0 lead by the 1:11 mark of the second period and held on for a 3-2 road win over division-rival Hershey in front of 8,200 fans at the Giant Center.
Stefan Ruzicka, Pete Zingoni, and Boyd Kane all scored for the Phantoms, who snapped a season-high three-game losing skid.
Brian Boucher picked up the win in net with 18 saves on 20 shots.
The Bears attempted a comeback, as Louis Robitaille and Jonathan Paiement each scored on the power play to make it a one-goal game.
PORTLAND 5, PROVIDENCE 4
Portland took a 3-0 lead in the first period and held off league-leading Providence by a 5-4 final at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.
Matt Christie led the Pirates with a pair of goals, while Andrew Ebbett posted a goal and an assist.
Defenseman Joe Callahan chipped in with three assists, and goaltender Gerald Coleman stopped 31 of 35 shots to pick up the win.
Jeff Hoggan scored twice for the Bruins, who saw their five-game winning streak come to an end. Pascal Pelletier potted a goal and added two assists.
HARTFORD 7, WORCESTER 1
Hartford scored four times on the power play and seven times in all on its way to a 7-1 pounding of host Worcester at the DCU Center.
Second-year pro Greg Moore netted a hat trick for the Wolf Pack and added an assist. Nigel Dawes set a franchise record with six points on the night (two goals, four assists).
Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau contributed a three-point effort (1-2-3), and rookie Artem Anisimov accounted for the other Hartford goal.
Goaltender Al Montoya made 22 saves for the Wolf Pack, who have now earned a standings point in eight straight games overall (7-0-0-1) and improved to 4-0-0-0 against Worcester this season.
Craig Valette scored the Sharks’ lone goal. Worcester dropped to 0-3-0-2 in its last five games.
NORFOLK 5, WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON 3
Adam Henrich tallied four points (1-3-4) as Norfolk defeated Wilkes-Barre/Scranton by a 5-3 count at the Norfolk Scope.
Norm Milley and Justin Keller each tallied a goal and an assist for the Admirals, and Karl Stewart and Rob Klinkhammer added goals.
Goaltender Karri Ramo stopped 28 shots to pick up the win.
The Penguins dropped a second straight game following three consecutive wins. Their goals were scored by Ryan Stone, Jeff Taffe, and Dennis Bonvie.
ROCKFORD 4, LAKE ERIE 3 (OT)
Prestin Ryan capped off a three-point night (1-2-3) with an unassisted goal at 1:20 of overtime, lifting Rockford over Lake Erie by a 4-3 final at the Quicken Loans Arena.
The IceHogs swept their two-game set against the Monsters, both by 4-3 finals. They won in a shootout on Friday night.
Jack Skille, Troy Brouwer, and Michael Blunden scored in regulation for Rockford, and goaltender Corey Crawford stopped 28 of 31 shots in the win.
David Jones paced the Monsters with a pair of goals, while Chris Stewart also scored.
SYRACUSE 2, GRAND RAPIDS 1
Syracuse scored two goals just seven seconds apart in the first period and held on for a 2-1 road win over Grand Rapids before a crowd of 9,262 at the Van Andel Arena.
Andrew Murray netted his ninth of the year for the Crunch at 12:26 of the opening period, and Jeffrey Szwez followed at 12:33
The Griffins’ Carl Corazzini pulled the home team within one at 16:44 of the third period, notching a power play marker for his 10th goal of the season. Grand Rapids was unable to get the equalizer, though.
Syracuse goaltender Tomas Popperle improved to 6-8-0 on the season with 34 saves.
QUAD CITY 4, PEORIA 3
Grant Stevenson tallied a goal and two assists to lead visiting Quad City past Peoria, 4-3, at the Carver Arena.
Cam Cunning, Krys Kolanos, and Warren Peters also scored for the Flames, who netted four straight goals after surrendering the game’s first two in the opening period.
The offensive outburst made a winner of goaltender Matt Keetley, who made 27 saves on 30 shots.
The Rivermen took their 2-0 first-period lead on goals by Trent Whitfield and Alexander Hellstrom. Jean-Guy Trudel added a goal in the third stanza.
IOWA 3, SAN ANTONIO 2 (OT)
James Neal’s power play goal at 4:13 of overtime vaulted Iowa to an improbable 3-2 road win over San Antonio at the AT&T Center.
The Stars were seconds away from losing in regulation, but Marty Sertich’s goal at 19:52 of the third period forced overtime.
B.J. Crombeen also scored for Iowa, and goaltender Philippe Sauve stopped 19 of 21 shots to pick up the win.
The Rampage received goals from Enver Lisin and David Spina in the losing effort. Goaltender Josh Tordjman made 27 saves.
HOUSTON 4, MANITOBA 3
Steve Kelly scored twice to lead visiting Houston past Manitoba, 4-3, before 8,800 fans at the MTS Centre. The Aeros swept their two-game weekend set with the Moose.
Serge Payer and Cal Clutterbuck also scored for Houston, and Benoit Pouliot contributed two assists.
The Aeros extended their season-high winning streak to four games, pushing them to 12-10-1-1 on the season.
Brad Moran, Rick Rypien, and Jannik Hansen scored for the Moose in the losing effort.
