Marlies’ Crabb named Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Toronto Marlies right wing Joey Crabb has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 23, 2011.

Crabb scored three goals and added two assists for five points in two games last week as the Marlies moved into first place in the AHL’s North Division (4-1-1-0).

Crabb opened the week by scoring one goal and then assisting on the game-winning tally as Toronto posted a 5-4 overtime victory over Rochester on Saturday afternoon. Then on Sunday, Crabb’s three-point third period – including goals at 11:01 and 16:30 – helped the Marlies rally for a standings point in a 5-4 overtime loss to Lake Erie.

Crabb has now recorded 11 points in his last four games (all multi-point efforts) and enters the new week tied for second in the AHL with teammate Joe Colborne with 12 points (6g, 6a) in six games overall.

A sixth-year pro out of Colorado College, Crabb has totaled 72 goals and 97 assists for 169 points in 296 career AHL games with Toronto and Chicago, and was a member of the Wolves’ Calder Cup championship team in 2008. Crabb has also appeared in 77 career NHL games with Toronto and Atlanta, setting NHL career highs in games (48), assists (12) and points (15) with the Maple Leafs in 2010-11.

In recognition of his achievement, Crabb will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Marlies home game.
