The Toronto Marlies announced today that the club has signed defensemen Todd Perry, Andy Schneider and Juha Uotila, right wing Joe Cooper and centre Dan Rudisuela to AHL contracts. In addition, the Marlies have agreed to terms with forward Tyler Doig to an AHL contract.
Perry, 21, played eight games for the Toronto Marlies during the 2007-08 season, collecting an assist with eight penalty minutes. The Ingleside, Ontario native registered his first career AHL point (assist) on March 7 at Syracuse. The 6’3, 215-pound defenseman skated in 55 games with the Columbia Inferno of the ECHL last season, collecting 28 points (six goals, 22 assists) with 73 penalty minutes. Perry played 13 games for the Inferno during the 2008 ECHL playoffs and registered 14 penalty minutes.
Schneider, a 6’1, 215-pound defenseman played in 57 games last season with the AHL’s Portland Pirates, collecting 11 points (three goals, eight assists) and 81 penalty minutes. He ranked tied for first on the team with a plus-21 rating. During the 2008 Calder Cup playoffs, the Grand Forks, North Dakota native registered two goals and three assists in 11 games. Schneider was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2001.
Cooper played five games with the Inferno last season, registering 12 penalty minutes. The 6’0, 200-pound defenseman skated in three games for Columbia in the 2008 ECHL playoffs and registered nine penalty minutes. The 23-year-old Toronto native was originally drafted by the Ottawa Senators in 2004.
Uotila, 23, appeared in 103 games over three seasons at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and totaled 53 points (seven goals, 46 assists) with 104 penalty minutes. During the 2007-08 season with the Mavericks, the 6’1, 185-pound defenseman played in 22 games and tallied one goal and 14 assists and 14 penalty minutes. Last season, Uotila ranked sixth on the team in assists and his lone goal last season was an overtime winner.
Rudisuela, 23, played in 108 games over four seasons at St. Mary’s University and collected 106 points (47 goals, 59 assists) and 133 penalty minutes. In the 2007-08 season, the 5’7, 160-pound center tallied 13 goals and 20 assists with 28 penalty minutes. The Mississauga, Ontario native played under current Marlies head coach Greg Gilbert during the 2003-04 season with the Mississauga IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League and scored a career best 24 goals that season.
Doig, 22, appeared in 24 games for the Toronto Marlies during the 2007-08 season, collecting eight points (four goals, four assists) with 13 penalty minutes. The 6’0, 180-pound center skated in 38 regular season games for the Columbia Inferno of the ECHL and collected seven goals and 22 assists. He played in 13 playoff games for the Inferno and tallied seven points (three goals, four assists).
