Moose sign Marty Murray

The Manitoba Moose announced on Monday that they have signed center Marty Murray to an American Hockey League contract.

Murray appeared in 76 games last season with the Manchester Monarchs and led the team in scoring with 54 points (15 goals, 39 assists) while recording with 37 penalty minutes.

The Deloraine, Man., native has appeared in 346 American Hockey League games over his 13-year pro career with Saint John, Philadelphia and Manchester, recording 107 goals and 235 assists for 342 points. Murray’s best AHL season came in 2000-01 when he lead the Saint John Flames in scoring with 76 points in 56 games and captained them to the Calder Cup championship. He was also named to the starting lineup at the 1996 and 1997 AHL All-Star Classics.

Murray has played in 261 National Hockey League games with Calgary, Philadelphia, Carolina and Los Angeles, tallying 31 goals and 42 assists. He also won a pair of gold medals with Canada at the World Junior Championships in 1994 and 1995, where he played with Moose defenseman Nolan Baumgartner.

Murray was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in the fourth round, 96th overall, in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.
