Manitoba got a power-play goal from Lee Goren with 8:55 gone in the third period and a 25-save effort from Alex Auld to post a 3-1 win in St. John’s on Monday night.
The Moose have won four of five on the road this season, upping their record to 4-3-0-0 overall.
Justin Morrison scored 6:30 into the game for Manitoba, which held the slim lead until Goren made it 2-0 with David Ling off for high-sticking.
Brad Leeb got the Maple Leafs on the board 19 seconds later, but the Moose were able to hang on, getting an empty-net goal from Tomas Mojzis for insurance.
Mikael Tellqvist made 27 stops in the loss for St. John’s, which fell to 1-4-0-1 on the year.
The teams meet again Tuesday night at Mile One Stadium.
