Norfolk’s Crawford named top AHL goalie for October

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Corey Crawford of the Norfolk Admirals has been named the Rbk X-Pulse/AHL Goaltender of the Month for October.

Crawford was a perfect 4-0-0 with a 1.25 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage in four appearances to start the 2006-07 season, helping Norfolk to its longest winning streak in nearly five years.

Crawford began his second pro season by making 26 saves in Norfolk’s 6-3 win over Springfield on Oct. 13. He then posted his second career shutout on Oct. 21, stopping 22 shots in a 4-0 win over East Division foe Philadelphia. Crawford finished off the month with back-to-back victories over Hartford, making 21 saves on Oct. 27 and 31 more on Oct. 28 in a pair of 3-1 decisions.

In recognition of his achievement, Crawford will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Admirals home game.

A second-round draft pick by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2003, Crawford was 22-23-1 with a 2.94 goals-against average and an .898 save percentage in 48 games as a rookie for Norfolk last season. The 21-year-old native of Montreal also appeared in his first two NHL games for Chicago, debuting on Jan. 22, 2006, vs. Minnesota.
