SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Hartford Wolf Pack left wing Nigel Dawes has been named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 15, 2006. In three games last week, Dawes scored six goals and added an assist for seven points.
Dawes registered three consecutive two-goal nights on the week, beginning Wednesday at Bridgeport when he picked up three points and a plus-3 rating in a 4-3 shootout victory over the Sound Tigers. On Friday night, Dawes netted a pair of power-play goals to help the Wolf Pack to a 4-0 win over visiting Hershey. And Saturday, he scored twice more in a 5-4 loss to Portland. Dawes was named the game’s second star in all three contests.
In recognition of his achievement, Dawes will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Wolf Pack home game.
The 20-year-old Dawes is in his first professional season after a stellar junior career that saw him score at least 47 goals in each of the last three years. In 2005-06, the Winnipeg native has recorded 19 goals and 13 assists for 32 points along with a plus-16 rating in 39 games. He is one goal off the AHL lead among rookies and tied for fourth overall in plus/minus. Dawes represented Canada in two World Junior Championships, winning silver in 2004 and gold in 2005.
