Tomas Surovy‘s goal with 39 seconds left in regulation set the stage for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to pull out a 5-4 shootout victory over Manitoba on Tuesday night.
The back-and-forth contest, the Penguins’ first-ever game in Winnipeg, featured a wild second period that included three Moose goals, shorthanded goals by Wilkes-Barre’s Shane Endicott and Matt Murley, two lead changes and a goaltending switch by the Pens.
Andy Chiodo came on in relief of Marc-Andre Fleury after Manitoba took a 3-2 lead, and stopped nine of 10 shots down the stretch to earn the win.
Ryan Whitney also scored for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and Colby Armstrong netted the clinching goal in the fifth shootout round.
Josh Green recorded a goal and an assist for the Moose, who saw their five-game winning streak come to an end.
MILWAUKEE 4, SAN ANTONIO 2
Dan Hamhuis and Wyatt Smith scored third-period goals to propel Milwaukee to a 4-2 win over visiting San Antonio.
The Admirals’ fourth straight win gave them a four-point lead over Chicago atop the West Division. The Rampage remain tied with Grand Rapids for third place.
Bryan Lundbohm and Timofei Shishkanov also scored for Milwaukee, and Brian Finley made 23 saves.
Stephen Weiss and Josh Olson picked up the goals for San Antonio.
