The AHL’s 71st regular season is in the books, and the match-ups are set for the first round of the 2007 Calder Cup Playoffs. The last day of the season had plenty at stake, and the 16-team postseason field has been filled.
Omaha captured the West Division and Western Conference regular-season title with a 4-2 win in Chicago, relegating the Wolves to second place. Chicago will face Milwaukee while Omaha draws Iowa in the first round.
Grand Rapids claimed the final playoff spot out of the North Division when Peoria lost; the Griffins will meet Manitoba, while Rochester will get home-ice advantage in its series with Hamilton after defeating the Bulldogs on Sunday and claiming second place in the North.
Providence finishes third in the Atlantic Division and takes on Hartford in the opening round; Worcester gets fourth place and a date with Manchester.
And Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has edged Norfolk for second place in the East Division and home-ice advantage in their opening-round tussle. Hershey begins its Calder Cup title defense with a first-round series against Albany.
