Predators sign Bass

The Nashville Predators, parent club of the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals, have signed free-agent forward Cody Bass to a one-year, two-way contract worth $575,000 at the NHL level and $125,000 at the AHL level.

Bass, 28, skated in 61 games with the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs last season, collecting six goals and eight assists for 14 points along with 165 penalty minutes. The 6-foot, 202-pound center has played eight professional seasons and totaled 37 goals and 52 assists for 89 points in 331 regular-season AHL games with Rockford, Springfield and Binghamton, along with four goals and five assists in 38 postseason contests.

The native of Owen Sound, Ont., won the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award as the AHL’s Man of the Year in 2010-11, and also helped Binghamton to the 2011 Calder Cup championship.

Ottawa’s fourth-round choice, 95th overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft, Bass has appeared in 49 career NHL games with Ottawa and Columbus, recording two goals and three assists. He also has one goal in four Stanley Cup Playoff matches.
