Rangers agree to terms with Carey, Schneider

The New York Rangers announced Saturday that the team has agreed to terms with free-agent forwards Paul Carey and Cole Schneider.

Carey, 28, skated in 55 games with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League in 2016-17, registering 24 goals and 31 assists for 55 points, along with a plus-14 rating and 29 penalty minutes. Carey established AHL career highs in several categories during the past season, including goals, assists, points, plus/minus rating, power play goals (eight), and game-winning goals (six), and his 19-game scoring streak from Oct. 26 to Dec. 26 was the longest in the AHL in eight years.

Carey tallied two points (one goal, one assist) in four playoff contests with Hershey during the past season, and skated in six NHL regular-season games and one NHL playoff game with Washington in 2016-17.

The 6-1, 200-pounder has appeared in 287 career AHL games over parts of six seasons, registering 79 goals and 103 assists for 182 points, along with a plus-6 rating and 146 penalty minutes.

Carey has played 32 career NHL games over parts of four seasons with Colorado and Washington, registering one goal and one assist for two points. He has also skated in four playoff contests in his NHL career.

The Boston native was selected by Colorado in the fifth round, 135th overall, of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Schneider, 26, skated in 71 games with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League this past season, registering 24 goals and 39 assists for 63 points, along with a plus-9 rating and 45 penalty minutes. He established AHL career highs in assists, points, and power play goals (nine) in 2016-17, and tied for sixth in the AHL in points. Schneider also participated in the 2017 AHL All-Star Classic.

The 6-1, 200-pounder skated in four NHL games with Buffalo during the past season, registering one assist and posting a plus-2 rating.

Schneider has skated in 353 career AHL games over parts of six seasons, registering 111 goals and 157 assists for 268 points, along with a plus-24 rating and 171 penalty minutes. He has recorded at least 20 goals and 50 points in each of his last four seasons in the AHL, and has also played in seven career AHL playoff games, recording two assists.

Schneider has played in six career NHL games over parts of two seasons with Buffalo, tallying one assist and posting a plus-2 rating.

The Williamsville, N.Y., native was originally signed by Ottawa as an undrafted free agent on March 14, 2012.
