The Buffalo Sabres, parent club of the AHL’s Rochester Americans, announced that the team has agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent forward Nick Tarnasky and defenseman T.J. Brennan on one-year contracts.
Tarnasky, 27, joins the Sabres after spending a season in the Kontinental Hockey League playing for Vityaz Chekov. In one KHL season, Tarnasky recorded 12 points (5g, 7a) and 173 penalty minutes in 36 games.
Tarnasky, a native of Rocky Mountain House, Alta., was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the ninth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. In parts of five NHL seasons, Tarnasky has compiled 30 points (13g, 17a) and 297 penalty minutes in 245 games with Tampa Bay, Nashville and Florida.
Tarnasky has played 219 AHL games with Springfield and Rochester, totaling 31 goals, 32 assists and 433 PIM.
Brennan, 23, was Buffalo’s second-round pick (31st overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He finished the 2011-12 season with 16 goals — tied for the AHL lead among defensemen — and 14 assists for 30 points in 52 games with Rochester, as well as one goal in 11 games for Buffalo after making his NHL debut on Nov. 23 vs. Boston.
The Willingboro, N.J., native has totaled 37 goals and 55 assists for 92 points in 189 AHL games with Portland and Rochester.
