San Jose adds veteran Guite

Executive vice president and general manager Doug Wilson announced Friday that the San Jose Sharks, parent club of the AHL’s Worcester Sharks, have signed forward Ben Guite to a one-year contract.

Guite finished second on the Springfield Falcons (AHL) in points (47) on 17 goals and 30 assists, and tied for first in plus/minus (plus-12) in 72 games last season. Guite, who was the team captain, also ranked fourth on the Falcons with 91 penalty minutes.

The right-handed forward has spent time with Boston, Colorado and Nashville, accumulating 45 points (19 goals and 26 assists) in 175 National Hockey League games. The 11-year professional has also posted 264 points (99 goals and 165 assists) in 559 AHL games with Cincinnati, Bridgeport, Providence, Albany, Milwaukee and Springfield.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound native of Montreal was originally selected by Montreal in the seventh round (172nd overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
